Following the formal opening
ceremonies the two remaining young men going to “Boy’s State” were introduced
and spoke to the membership. They are
Adam Hartsler and Jorge Jimenez. They
are both grateful for the Post’s support and will give reports to us upon their
return.
Matt Allen introduced one of
our new members, Melissa Richardson. Her
father is fellow member Ron Richardson.
Coach Bob Erickson spoke
concerning his hope & desire that the Post underwrite the Legion Baseball
teams insurance premium and perhaps defray all or part of the cost to enter
into a tournament.
The Adjutants and Finance
Officer reports were given & approved.
The Service Officer reported
that Silver Suarez is now in Heritage Mannor after a fall at home. Further, Edris Mabe was admitted to Memorial
hospital.
Building Committee –
The survey for the new post
building is being completed this evening & they will be breaking ground May
6.
The formal ground breaking
ceremony will take place May 22 @ 10 a.m.
The results of the asbestos
survey will be received shortly.
A motion was made by John
Haines & 2nd by Bill Barnhill to let the Building Committee have
the Post’s permission to make the determination as to which way is best in
either applying for a TIF fund or pay ourselves to have the rental house
demoded & then apply to the Village
for tax exempt status. Motion passed
without any desenting votes.
Homecoming report – we are
still in dire need for I.D. checkers.
We have surpassed our goal of
100% membership renewals again.
Ten Post members participate
in the Vet Ham memorial vigil and walked the Korean Memorial too.
The Post will again be
placing flags on the graves of Veterans this Memorial weekend.
Les Morgan talked the
membership about the WW II observance that will take place at Paula Staab
Polk's after our Memorial Day ceremonies.
He also asked the membership if they would be willing to help by donating
$250 to pay for Sub Way sandwiches for the get together. At this time member Gerald Wright said that
he, representing Fat Willy's would pay for half. John Haines made a motion which was 2nd
by Matt Allen to have the Post pay for the other half. Motion passed without any desenting votes.
The second & final
acceptance of nominations for 2004-2005 officers was held next. The slate is as follows:
Commander – Joe Davis
Sr Vice Comm. – Gary Ori
Jr Vice Comm. – Matt Allen
Chaplin – John Haines
Finance Officer – Dan Bedell
Sgt @ Arms – Bob Davenport
Service Officer – Jim Spohrer
Election will be held at the
June meeting with installation in August.
A motion was made by Joe
Gragg & 2nd by Dan Smith to allot $660 to Bob Erickson and the
Legion baseball team to be use to pay for the insurance and requested
tournament. Motion passed with no
desenting votes.
